Nyungwe National Park protects approximately 1,000 square kilometres of montane rainforest, bamboo, wetlands and grasslands along Rwanda’s mountainous southwestern frontier.

The landscape is spectacular. Forest-covered ridges disappear into the mist, waterfalls tumble through densely vegetated valleys and viewpoints reveal seemingly endless layers of green hills.

Nyungwe is also an important conservation area and forms part of the Nyungwe–Kibira landscape, extending towards neighbouring Burundi. Its forests protect remarkable biodiversity while playing an important role in regional water systems and conservation.
